Indian Constitution Development
The 'Indian Independence Act' was proposed in the British Parliament on 4 July, which was approved on 18 July 1947.
There were 20 sections in this act. The main provisions of this Act are as follows -
1) Establishment of two dominions: On August 15, 1947, two dominions named India and Pakistan will be formed and the British government will hand over power to them. The responsibility of power will be entrusted to the Constituent Assembly of both the dominions.
2) Both the Dominions of India and Pakistan will have a Governor-General, who will be appointed on the advice of his cabinet.
3) Constituent Assembly to function as a legislature: Till the time the Constituent Assembly does not frame the Constitution, they will continue to function as a legislature.
4) The posts of the Minister of India will be abolished.
