Almost every student is afraid of exams. And one of the reasons for this is that no matter how much we study the book, some of us fail to score high marks. This happens because even though we enter the examination hall with a lot of information in our minds, we often fail to present the answers in a correct and effective manner.


For most of our life, we have to attempt subjective tests, and the marks obtained in these tests play a big role in shaping our future. In such a situation, it becomes a matter of concern for the students.

Read Your Question Carefully - don't start writing your answer immediately after looking at the question. Take a minute or two to structure the information in your mind, and decide what to write all down. Plan your answer. If you have to write a long answer or essay, try to have an introduction, main point, and conclusion. A strong conclusion will attract your answer sheet corrector.


Time Management - Time management plays an important role in any exam, so you must know how to properly manage your time in the exam hall. Try to evaluate how much time it will take you to answer the question of 1 mark, 2 marks, 3 marks,s, etc, and then stick to the same in the exam. This will ensure that you are not spending too much time on just one answer and discarding other questions which are of less or more importance. If a test is of 3 hours, try to complete it in 2.5 hours. Take at least 15 minutes to re-check your answers.

Handwriting And Cleanliness - Good handwriting will help you to score good marks in the exam. This makes your point clear to the examiner. Make sure your handwriting is legible, easy to read, and neat so that the examiner will examine your answer sheet liberally. Wherever the drawing is required, draw them neatly. Use a ruler to draw a table. Do the rough work on the right column of the sheet or on the last sheet of your paper. Sometimes, even if your calculations are wrong, an examiner can look at your approach and give you marks for that. Chaotic paper and poor handwriting generally bother the examinees, causing them to deduct your marks.

Write-In Dots Wherever Possible - remember that test takers have 1000 papers to check and their main objective is to see if you have the necessary knowledge, not to read your stories. Students have to present their answers in such a way that the person who corrects your paper should be able to judge your knowledge while reading it. So try to write your answer in points, wherever possible, rather than in paragraphs. The numbers look better and are easier to understand. They will do a better job of getting your point across to the examiner. All the steps should be shown while solving numericals. Don't skip steps. It can lead to calculation mistake and examiner will also struggle to follow your thought process so you can lose marks.

Quality Matters, Not Quantity - the quality and relevant content of your answers will get you points, not long stories. Most of the students believe that by increasing the quantity of answers they will get good marks, but this is not true, the examiner will allot the marks on the basis of the quality of the material and not on the basis of quantity. No one, including the examiner, has time to read long answers anyway. Most papers already have a word limit specified in the instructions - stick to it. Write the main point asked in as few words as possible.


Practice And Evaluate Previous Years Papers - CBSE and many other boards release answer sheets of toppers and answer keys in which they list the essential points in a perfect answer. Make it a point to attempt such type of papers. Attempt the paper without looking at the answers first and then evaluate them. See what you have written and try to improve your performance with every effort. Make sure you keep the deadline in mind as well. Not only do you need to write all the answers properly but you also need to finish the paper in the stipulated time.


Revise Your Answers - Most of the students never check their answer sheets after completing their exams. Checking your answers will help you spot unintentional spelling mistakes, silly calculation mistakes, grammatical errors, etc. Proofing your answers can do wonders; You can rectify your mistakes, add more marks and make quick diagrams related to the topics, which will fetch you more marks.
